Is there any documentation or tutorial on what / how the spotlight function works in the scene tools area. I need to be able to have two intelligent lights follow a moving spot on the stage, was wondering if this feature would do that.

I think you want to use the follow spot function.
Edit a button and active the Follow spot tab, there is an help area on the right of the window that explain how to use it.
