Hardware Firmware Version & Software problem

Post by Enlightened »

Has anyone got any advice on updating firmware etc?
The situation:
Windows 7. Downloaded latest ESA Pro from web, (software dated 2nd April 2010).
Connect STICK (S/N 674) message appears to upload new firmware. Complete upload from 1.01 to 1.14. Try software again, says 'upload new firmware'. It now tries to upload version 1.15 and fails. Have rebooted, hardware and PC several times to no gain. ESA Pro continues to say no hardware connected! From tools.exe, under 'test', I do have DMX control.

So, I get out my Windows XP laptop. No result here either. Software thinks hardware is connected and working, and although thinks it is controlling 'live' it is not. It also fails when it tries to upload a new program to the device. I can only assume that the firmware is now too advanced for the software on my laptop (software dated December 2008). Do I need the December 2009 version of the software? Are old software versions still available to download anywhere?

All advice on how to connect my clients windows 7 laptop greatfully received.

Many thanks

Hi Andrew

You purchased the STICK quite early on, therefore its good to keep the software and firmware up to date. 2008 was one of the first ever releases so could cause a lot of problems with later firmware.

-Make sure ESAPRO is closed and connect the STICK
-Go to my computer\ C drive(or whichever is your main drive)\ ESAPRO\ tools.exe
-Go to the firmware tab and select update firmware
-Wait atleast 5 minutes
-Disconnect and re-connect the STICK, wait 2 minutes
-Start ESAPRO
-If your STICK is not detected then repeat the above steps but using a different USB socket on your computer
-Let me know if none of this works

umm, great!
My customer is not going to be best pleased with this 'sit and wait' approach.

Sounds like I need to find my self a windows 7 laptop and access time when the client is not waiting around for me.
Can you email me your phone number or similar so I can do the potential 'next step' while still on site and not require yet another visit?

Im not convinced we will have much luck with the procedure suggested as we did have the stick connected for periods of time yesterday while playing with the software.

I have more sticks in sale stock, but dont want to get left with an old one if I swap it out. Im still waiting for another customer who had a older one to return the spare i sent them as a 'get out of jail' unit.

Is the ultimate answer that by hook or by crook I need to get firmare version 1.15 onto the stick and then it will work with the latest ESA Pro release?

kind regards
andrew

The majority of issues are fixed with a simple update to the latest version of software and firmware.

In some cases windows will install drivers on some USB ports but not others. This is an issue with all USB devices on some machines which is why I suggest you try each socket as a last resort.

I'll e-mail you my support number should you have any difficulties.

hi..
i've got similar problem last month... i think it's a problem with the windows driver.. you have to disinstall esa software and DRIVER!!!! from device manager!!!! after this you have to install esa software.. and after connect the stick to usb!!!now windows start to detect usb device.. and all work good... ;-)
i don't remember if the memory card is insert in my procedure.. try both, with memory and without memory...
