left and right from the screen there are the round buttons previous and next.
under the screen there are the rectangle buttons previous and next.

the round ones are obvious: swtich between scenes.
I suppose the rectangular ones are for switching between areas?

what is the exact difference in function between these UI's ??

The ones at the bottom switch between pages. The difference between a page and an area: 2 pages can use the same area.
