Manuel steps

Hi
I want to control a sequence of steps manually.
Not like pausing a show but, press the key or midi key selects the next step of a show.
I guess the steps also could be created as steps into one switch ?
whats your preferred way to create steps ?
all steps into one switch
or
one step = one switch and create a show
and why ?

Thanks regarding the "titanic sinking blue"
I ended up with 10 switches, changed to scene's, fadetime placed into each scene.

If you need to skip through steps in live:
-make a scene/switch for each step
-record these these into a cycle
-go to cycle list mode, select all elements and click the 'pause cycle' checkbox
-add a shortcut to the 'Jump to next pause element' button. Keyboard shortcuts can be added in the software preferences and MIDI shortcuts can be added in the console.
