Disabling pop-up window when shift-clicking a button

Is there any way to disable the pop-up window that we get when we shift-click a button? I'd like to live-modify a button without actually activating it, and haven't found the way to disable this window in options. The window i'm referring to is the one with the four dials, and the different options for switches (dimmer, phase, size, priorities, etc). Or has the shortcut to select switches without activating them been changed?
