Hi Webber,

I tried something based on what you told me and am now able to create fades that dont strobe. I guess i wasnt using the dimmer button alone by itself. My profile has the dimmer channel divided into 3 sub sections and correctly specifies the cut off for the dimmer at 230 and then next panel for strobing starts at 230 and goes upwards.

On a side note I want to get a new laptop to run my lights. Do you think my Sunlite 2006 and my 512EC box will run on the new laptop with windows 7 ? Or is it only XP pro compatible ?

Not sure about the Win7 compatibility as I'm also on XP at the moment.
Try searching if this issue was discussed before.

Out of curiousity, are you using a pc pr a laptop Webber ? I was using a PC built into a rugged chasis. But 3 times the system crashed just before the show. I mean nothing to do with sunlite. But the system just wouldnt even start up. I think full PCs are more subject to vibrations during travel and something gives out. Ive changed 3 motherboards + processors and they all just died after a little rehearsal transporting. I think Laptops are more tightly knitted and meant for rigorous travel and handle shock absorption much better than PC cabinets ?

Do let me know please.

Thanks

I agree with your observation about laptops being more ridged then desktop PCs.
I use a laptop (Del Vostro 1300 IIRC) that has been rock stable.
In my setup the laptop is mounted to a tray that is coupled to the case by shock absorbers. This adds some cushioning to the laptop.

This is my setup:

Webber, thanks for the pic. Very helpful. So your running from a laptop. Good. Thats nice to know and definitely more stable. Not my only problem is getting a laptop that supports Win XP Pro. Dont seem to see much of those around since most of the laptops nowadays are geared towards WIN 7 or VISTA etc.

I assume Sunlite runs more stable on WIN XP. I dont even know if it will even run on any other OS.

I am also using a very similar Behringer Mixer, Just like yours.

Actually i have a very stable laptop sitting at home. Its 10 years old and looks better than even the most modern laptops now. I paid about $2000 usd those day to get it. So its still trendy in looks and runs well. The only thing is i need to play HD video also from the laptop and thats sort of putting pressure on it. In fact it plays HD video well. But on 1 out of 10 days it stutters on the HD video. What if that happens to be my show day ? Thats the only reason im looking for a newer laptop that is more geared towards playing back HD video.

Have you tried playing hd videos from your Vostro ?

This laptop is dedicated to SL. No video or even audio applications, only the basic windows programs and Avast antivirus.
I believe in task separation. Safe and reliable with no chance of one program loading or stalling and maybe effecting another one running on the same machine.
I have a separate laptop dedicated to audio applications (mainly playback, syncing to SL via MIDI when needed) and when video is called for, there will be a third laptop or a DVD player for that.
The laptop running SL by itself is probably just idling along (with the exception of the graphics card sweating a little when running Easyview in rendered mode)
