Problem with Sonlite 1024EC on 64-bit machine

Is there a driver for an 1024EC to run on 64-bit windows. If not, why as the 512BC can run on either 32 or 64 bit according to the feature matrix.

Thanks,
Norm

The 1024EC is not compatible with 64 bit. Although the 512 BC is lower down in the product range, the hardware used for the 512 BC (SIUDI 6) was designed after the hardware used for the 1024 interfaces (SIUDI 5). This is why the 512 BC has the ability to support 64 bit.

For more information on the SIUDI hardware used in the Sunlite range, check out the video tutorials here....

Simon:

While I understand the difference in interfaces, I cannot begin to express how disappointed I am in the matter. When I ordered my interface several months ago, I specifically requested information about the EC and FC series. I was told the main difference was that FC ran EasyShow, while the EC series did not. The 32/64 bit issue was not mentioned. Now I've purchased a new computer with 64 bit Windows and an incompatible DMX interface. Bottom line is purchased a more expensive interface with poorer specifications than the cheapest model. I find that nearly inexcusable.

Can it be all that hard to force the driver to access the 32-bit subsystem in Windows?

We are currently developing the SIUDI 8 interface which will be 64bit compatible and will replace the SIUDI 5 for the Sunlite Economy Class range, however this won't be available for several months.

I've forwarded your suggestion to the developers.

There are several options...

1.Downgrade to the Basic Class product if you don't require the stand-alone memory, 2 universes or ethernet universes.
2.Upgrade to a First Class product
3.Wait until next summer when the SIUDI 8 is released and swap to this
4.Install Windows 32 bit. If you use the machine just for lighting, you should notice no difference in performance as the software is designed for a 32-bit system.

Simon:

Glad to hear the developers are working on the problem.

1. What is the process for upgrading / downgrading. I purchased my interface through Sirs Electronics in the US.
2. Considered the 32-bit OS downgrade; problem is I'm using an HP Touchsmart as my control surface. HP does not support 32-bit drivers for the touch surface.

Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Yes that's correct. The HP software which accompanies the hardware is actually designed in 32 bit even though the hardware only supports 64...from what I've heard.

It could be a good idea to consider the SUITE2-FC option as this will support the new sunlite suite 2 when it is released next year in addition to all the other features(SD card, InfraRed receiver, 3 universes, 64 bit etcetc.)

Your first port of call should be to contact Sirs Electronics. They should be able to sort you out with an exchange. If they cannot help, your interface will need to be returned to the Orlando office (assuming you are in the US). If you can obtain a serial number, proof of purchase (such as an invoice) with the amount you paid, I can get back to you with an upgrade quote.
